TD leading in most wards
An independent candidated has been declared elected as the chairperson of the
Korutla municipality in Karimnagar district, while the ruling Telugu Desam Party
was leading in eight, the Congress in Madanapalli and the BJP in Narsapuram,
as results of the elections held in 103 municipalities and five corporations on March nine
started trickling in.
Of the 59 wards for which results were declared till noon, the TDP
had won 35, Congress 17, CPI 2 and Independents 5.
As many as 624 candidates contested the chairpersons posts in 103 municipalities, while
there were 38 contestants for the post of mayor for the five corporations--Visakhapatnam,
Vijayawada, Guntur, Warangal and Kurnool. Besides, 13,655 candidates are in the race for
the posts of 2,858 councillors and 244 candidates for corporators posts. (UNI)
