Modi Meets German Chancellor

Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of German has reached India on Sunday for a two-day visit to hold the bilateral talks with PM in New Delhi.

The discussion between Modi and Chancellor will cover a wide range of issues including security and defence. She had been received by Modi and welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"Fully intends to support the ambitious program that PM Modi has outlined for the development of this nation, "We will co-operate on areas such as economy, agriculture, internal security, defence matters and financial relations,” said the German Chancellor.

It is known that, on the occasion of his visit she will also meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj before leaving to Bangalore for business conference.

The talks between both the leaders will aim at deepening bilateral engagement in education, renewable energy, skill development, railways, water and waste management, urban development and agriculture.

This is the first visit of Ms Merkel to India since Modi is leading the government. Germany is India's most important trading partner in Europe and both PM Modi and Ms Merkel have said they are keen to boost two-way trade.
