Samvad is a global Hindu- Buddhist initiative on conflict avoidance and environment consciousness. The key theme of Samvad is to avoid conflict, environmental consciousness and dialogue.

Prime Minister Modi on Thursday addresses “Samvad” which is the global conference attended by Buddhist spiritual leaders, scholars and other respected dignitaries.

Let us look at the highlights of his addressing….

Narendra Modi speaking about the importance of the Gautam Buddha said that, without embracing the path and ideals shown by Gautam Buddha; this century cannot be an Asian Country. Buddha was convinced that material wealth is not the sole goal. Human conflicts repulsed him. Buddhism and environment are closely co relate. From a Buddhist perspective nothing has a separate existence. Life of Gautam Buddha illustrates the power of service, compassion and most importantly renunciation.

Personally it is my reading of Vedic literature that educated me about the strong bond between humans and Mother Nature. We in India are proud of the fact that it was from this land that Gautam Buddha gave the world the tenets of Buddhism.

Along with Modi the spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravishankar and Sri Lanka President Chandrika Kumaratunga participated in Samvad.

Voice of peace must rise over the voice of hatred and violence in the world, says Ravishankar. Intolerant non state actors now control large territories where they are unleashing barbaric violence on innocents says Modi.

Climate change is a global challenge, I have written a book on climate change, it was released by APJ Abdul Kalam said Modi.
