Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Pathankot, the site of a terrorist attack in Punjab on January 2. The attack was reportedly spearheaded by Pakistani terrorists, belonging to the Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit. Six terrorists and seven security personnel were killed during the exchange of gun fire.

The Prime Minister will meet IAF personnel at the air base which had witnessed an 84-hour siege. Police sources have said that tight security arrangements have been made at the site.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had also visited the site.

The attack came after the Prime Minister's surprise Christmas visit to Lahore to meet Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a gesture that was to be followed by the Foreign Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan around January 15.
