The villages which are located in the Mehdiganj area of Varanasi, the constituency of PM Narendra Modi urge the centre to help them in stopping the production of Coca-Cola.

The villagers claim that the soft drink factory will use high amount of water from ground which has led to the water scarcity of the people living in the villages.

"Elected village council heads represent the voice of the people, and they are clear that Coca-Cola is not welcome in Mehdiganj. It is time for Coca-Cola to pack up and leave," said Amit Srivastava who is supporting the village people.

"Coca-Cola paints a pretty picture of itself internationally as a responsible user of water, but the reality in India is that it exploits groundwater at the expense of the poor, the women, children, farmers and livestock who have to live with less water because Coca-Cola mines groundwater in a water scarce area for profit."

The villagers under that are will use water for irrigation purpose, including personal purpose like drinking, washing etc.

The 18 village councils under that area had written a letter to the state pollution control board urging them to prohibit the company from extracting more ground water in the area.
