Manipur violence: 3 Killed, Houses of Representatives torched

In yet another incident just after Gujarat, 3 people were killed and around 14 people were injured following a protest in the Churachandpur district of Manipur on Monday. The protest were mainly related to three bills- the Manipur Land Revenue and land reforms bill, the Protection of Manipur People Bill and the Manipur Shops and Establishments Bill which was passed by the state assembly in view of protecting the native people and their rights.

An enraged group of people set fire on the homes of one minister and three legislators. These bills were ultimately passed after two months of protests by more than a few organizations where they demanded that the inner line permit system be implemented The Inner law permit system was introduced by the British in Naga Hills to refrain people from the plains to move into the hills.

A travel document is also required to enter into these states and move from one state to the other. This also hampers the economy and investments of the states. Manipur wanted ILP as it felt that intrusion of outsiders should be controlled- specially the people who enter from Bangladesh and even the rest of India.

They feel that the intrusion of outsiders in disturbing the economy of the state.The tribal groups is also doubtful that the bills would be used to take away their freedom.
