Introduction :
Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s much awaited film “Sardaar Gabbar Singh” has been released worldwide in a grand manner on the eve of Ugadi. Lets see whether the film has reached the expectations of the audience or not…!
Story :
Sardaar Gabbar Singh, a police officer, who gets transferred to Rattanpur, Madhya Pradesh, near the AP border. He is told by his senior officer that there are problems here and he needs to solve them. When he arrives he finds it is a lawless land ruled by Bhairo Singh (Sharad Kelkar) and his goons. There is also a palace and royalty who live there but he doesn’t know who. Meanwhile, Sardaar bumps into Arshi (Kajal Aggarwal) one day and happens to fall for her. Sardaar and Gabbar Singh develop an enmity but they also fancy the same woman. So how does Gabbar Singh get rid of the bad elements in the village? And what happens to his romance with Arshi? Does he win the girl?
Plus Points:
Probably, the one and major asset of Sardaar is power star himself. Right from the word go, it is Pawan’s histrionics that takes center stage. Whatever the fans expect from Pawan, he has given them in a platter. Be it with punch dialogues, dances or fights, Pawan has mesmerized in his role.
Kajal looks drop dead gorgeous as a princess. She has lost weight and looks superb in all her royal costumes. Sharad Kelkar makes a solid Tollywood debut. All his confrontational scenes with Pawan Kalyan have been executed well. After long time Brahmanandam is decent in his role and evokes some laughs. Mukesh Rishi does his supporting role naturally.
Cinematography by Arthur Wilson is superb. He showcased Ratanpur Royalty and village atmosphere in an excellent manner. Devi Sri’s music is an asset for the film. The dialogues written by Sai Madhav Burra have a lot of depth in the film. Art work by Brahma Kadali is fine. Production values are impressive.
Minues Points :
The story offers nothing new to the viewer and with a running time of 164 minutes, it is a tad too long. Some of the scenes in the film can actually be edited out because they don’t add to the story. The movie relies heavily on action with other elements thrown in and sitting through it for 163 minutes does get trying. Editing by Gautam Raju could have been better in the second half.
There are no major twists and turns as the film moves on a single thread till the end. The proceedings are quite predictable and the climax is also wrapped up in an unconvincing manner. After showcasing Sharad Kelkar’s character in such a powerful light during the first half, he is completely sidelined and becomes ineffective towards the end. Director Bobby, he has done just an average job with the film. He has dragged a simple point to unnecessary lengths and made the film look tedious at places.
Conclusion :
Sardaar Gabbar Singh will surely go well with all Pawan Kalyan fans. Right from the word go, it is Pawan’s solid screen presence and energetic performance that will bind you completely. But a weak story line, lengthy run time and a dragged out second half spoil the fun to an extent and make this film bore.
