Sampooran Singh Kalra popularly known as Gulzar.  His words are magical. Ethreal poetry and Gulzar are synonyms. Be it his writing or direction, Gulzar presented a different side to every emotion, and brought new meaning to every situation. He can say very convoluted things in simple words and can make simple inscrutable. It's up to you, what you like. Gulzar has been always in touch with his fans, he knows what people of every generation would like to hear. But that doesn't mean he would compromise with quality. He is still writing for us. Today on his 81th birthday, we niharonline pray to God that he continue to do so forever!

Born in Jhelum District in British India, his family moved to India after partition. He started his career as a lyricist in the 1963 film Bandini and worked with many music directors including R. D. Burman, Salil Choudhury, Vishal Bhardwaj and A. R. Rahman. He directed films such as Aandhi and Mausam and TV series during the 1970s and 1980s. Gulzar also wrote poetry, dialogues and scripts. He was awarded Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India, the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award  the highest award in Indian cinema. He has won several Indian National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, one Academy Award and one Grammy Award.

Gulzar is a man of multiple identities. He is a poet, a short story writer, a scenarist and a dialogue writer. He also writes Literature for children. However in the collective consciousness of the nation, Gulzar is, above all, a filmmaker and lyricist. Gulzar is one of Hindi Cinema’s last surviving links with its golden era.
