Modi receives warm welcome in Ottawa

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community outside the Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. The people waving the Indian tricolour reached out to shake hands with the visiting Prime Minister, with chants of `Modi, Modi`. Prime Minister Modi later shook hands with some people. Extremely delighted to meet Prime Minister Modi, a lady described him as an amazing leader. "He did so many things for India and the Indians. He is gonna make India proud and Indians proud," she said. A man in his late 50s said Prime Minister Modi has done a great job leading the country in the right direction. "We are very proud of him and we are very grateful to see him here," he said. A young supporter of Prime Minister Modi said that he was really proud to be an Indian. "I am really proud to be an Indian today. That`s for sure," he said. A lady, who was present outside the hotel to have a glimpse of Prime Minister Modi, lauded his gesture. "It is unusual because usually the Prime Ministers don`t come to the crowd. They just go inside, but he came. It`s nice of him," she said. Prime Minister Modi arrived in Ottawa earlier today on the third and final leg of his three-nation tour. Prime Minister Modi`s trip to Canada is the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 42 years. During his three-day stay in Canada, he will hold talks with his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper on a wide range of issues, including nuclear energy, trade and investment. Prime Minister Modi, who arrived here after concluding a successful visit to German, will also reach out to the Indian diaspora in Toronto and Vancouver.
