Narendra Modi to attend BRICS, SCO Summits Today

The five nation BRICS summit that gets underway on Thursday will see discussions on enhancing cooperation in the economic area of the five countries. PM Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. Putin pitched for increased cooperation with India and the two leaders also discussed market access issues and challenges to visa. The summit could also look at the possibility of starting credit facility in local currency from the BRICS Development Bank. Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif are expected to have a meeting on Friday to discuss bilateral relations. At least five agreements are expected to be signed after Modi-Sharif meet in Ufa on Friday. The Prime Minister will also be participating in the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The SCO summit is likely to see India, which is currently an observer of the grouping, acquire full membership.
