After series of scandals and court cases surrounding the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI), the appointment on Wednesday of a professional CEO in Rahul Johri of the Discovery Channel comes as a great relief for the sports lovers in the country. The next key post to be filled as part of the ongoing reforms in BCCI is that of CFO and the company Deloitte is seriously scanning prospective candidates for the post.

Rahul Johri has been familiar with the Discovery Networks for over 15 years as Asia Pacific’s Executive Vice-President and General Manager for South Asia. He will join BCCI on June 1 and report to the BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur.

"In the past one year, BCCI has undertaken various initiatives aimed towards transforming the working of BCCI in order to make the functioning more robust. This endeavor is another initiative of the Board aimed in the same direction and will mark as one more milestone towards strengthening the professional working of the BCCI," said Thakur.

The choice of a professional and not a politician or a sportsperson should remove the cloud in the air over BCCI. Johri will be given freedom to work independently in a set-up that is traditionally controlled by honorary office-bearers.

Echoing similar views, BCCI President Shashank Manohar, said, "We are pleased to have Rahul with us and are sure his vast experience and knowledge will benefit the Board. His vision, guidance and support will contribute towards the successful working of the BCCI."
