All-rounder Darren Sammy is one of five West Indies players to lose his central contract, with Andre Russell also missing out.

West Indies Twenty20 captain Darren Sammy and fellow all-rounder Andre Russell have not been awarded central contracts by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

Sammy did not feature in the one-day international series against Sri Lanka towards the end of last year and retired from Test cricket after losing the captaincy in 2014.

The 32-year-old was one of five players to lose his central contract, with Russell, Sulieman Benn, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo also missing out.

Devendra Bishoo, Shannon Gabriel, Sheldon Cottrell and Jermaine Blackwood were among the players to be added to a list of centrally contracted players which rose from 12 to 15.

Rajendra Chandrika, Shai Hope, Shane Dowrich and Leon Johnson were also awarded contracts by the WICB.

There was no central contract for Chris Gayle, who last month stated that he hopes to return to Test cricket this year.
