5.3-magnitude quake jolts Pakistan

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on Richter Scale struck parts of southern Punjab, including Jampur, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, Vehari and Sadiqabad, on early Friday morning.

The epicentre was 11 km north of Dajal town, Xinhua quoted the US Geological Survey as saying.

According to US Geological Survey the epicenter of the quake which struck at 05:27am on Friday was 23 kilometre west of Jampur at the depth of 29 kilometre.
The tremor was also felt in Bahawalpur, Ochh Sharif, Shujjabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kot Addu, Jahanian, Shorkot, Tando Allah Yar and Kabirwala. The quake spread panic among people and they rushed out of their homes. However, no loss of life or property was reported till filing of this report.
Pakistan is among the most earthquake-prone regions of the world with high vulnerability to earthquakes.
