Stan Lock, A teenager who cut his hair to raise money for a cancer charity was put into isolation by his school for breaking the rules. Stan (14) got a ‘number one’ haircut on Sunday so he could raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support ‘because cancer affects so many people’. But when he returned to Churchill Academy in North Somerset sporting the new cut, he was put in ‘isolation’ for three days by head teacher Dr Barry Wratten, who Stan said ‘did not approve’ of the hairstyle. ‘I’d hoped the school would have shown some element of judgment and would have made an exception,’ said Stan’s mother, Melanie Rees. ‘Stan’s been overwhelmed with messages of support from his friends.’ According to the school’s website, ‘extreme hairstyles will be isolated’ and ‘very short hair or hair with designs cut in will be considered extreme’. A Free Stan Lock Face book page has been set up on Face book, while a petition to have the teenager reinstated into class has more than 600 signatures. The stunt had raised more than £200 by Friday morning but that figure has skyrocketed to £4,000. The school could not be reached for comment.
