The Austrian and American film actress who was called as the ‘Most Beautiful Woman in Europe’ due to her striking dark exotic looks Hedy Lamarr was born on 9 November 1914.

Bored with her film career she opted to invent some interesting things at the time of World War II. She developed Jamming method, spread spectrum and also frequency hopping technology.

But the navy who participated in the war hasn’t used them but later in 1960s the principles she has invented were developed as Wi-Fi, CDMA and Bluetooth technology.

Lamarr’s frequency-hopping idea served as a basis for modern spread-spectrum communication technology such as GPS, Bluetooth, COFDM etc.

The story of Hedy was telecasted in the premier episode of the Discovery Channel show ‘How we invented the World’.

Today, Google Doodle paid tribute as this day is her 101st birthday. Inventor’s day in Austria, Germany and Switzerland will be celebrated on November 9th as the mark of her birthday.
