Twenty two years after a man from a Punjab village was kidnapped from his house, police registered a case against four unidentified persons following the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The case was registered by the Special Investigation Team constituted by the DGP, Punjab, at police station Fatehgarh Churian on the directions of the High Court.

Family of Sukhpal Singh of village Kala Afghana had filed a case in the HC in 2013 with the help of an NGO.

The family of the victim has expressed dissatisfaction with the police alleging that he had been killed in a fake encounter.

Dalbir Kaur, wife of Sukhpal Singh, alleged that on August 13, 1994 he was taken from their home by four persons, two of them in police uniform, on the pretext that he had been called by the then Majitha SSP Sita Ram Reddy.

The family then approached Mr Reddy who allegedly confirmed Mr Sukhpal was needed for information in a case and that he would be back home after a day or two.

They came to know from a newspaper report that Ropar police killed one Gurnam Singh Bandala, who was wanted by the police and carried prize on his head, in an encounter, Mrs Dalbir said.

She claimed it was not Bandala but her husband who was killed in the encounter and the same was told to them by Bandala himself who is still alive.
