Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) rejected Delhi Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari's offer of support to it and his appeal to the Muslim community to vote for the party in Delhi Assembly elections. While claiming that his party has always been against communal politics, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said, "People from all religion will vote for us. AAP doesn't support the ideology of Imam Bukhari, we don't need their support." Bukhari had earlier asked Muslims to support the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi Assembly elections. Traditionally the Imam has always asked Muslims to support Congress but this time he appealed Muslims to vote for AAP candidates and help in forming a secular government in Delhi. Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also responded to the appeal saying, "The correct answer to such 'fatwas' is through the ballot." "We are confident that people from all castes and communities will come out and vote for us," Jaitley added. Several other parties have also asked people to vote for AAP in the upcoming elections.
