In Tamil Nadu, farmers associations and various trade unions have called for a state wide bandh to protest against Karnataka's decision to construct a dam across Cauvery at Mekedatu. The protest is supported by opposition political parties in the state. The State Assembly had adopted an unanimous resolution condemning the action of Karnataka and has postponed today's session. Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan has said that there is no need to protest on the issue. But traders all across the State have closed down shutters to express solidarity with the farmers.
