Telugu cinema, also known as Tollywood, consists primarily of motion pictures produced in the Telugu language in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Known for being commercially consistent,[1] Telugu cinema, one of the largest film producers in India, had its influence over commercial cinema in India. The following is top ten list of the highest grossing Telugu films.

Attarintiki Daredi (2013)

Family drama film written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas. It stars Pawan Kalyan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Pranitha Subhash in the lead roles with Nadhiya, Boman Irani and Brahmanandam in supporting roles. It was produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad under the banner Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra in association with Reliance Entertainment. The soundtrack album and background score were composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Prasad Murella was the cinematographer. The film focuses on Gautham Nanda, a business heir who acts as a driver in his estranged aunt Sunandas house to mend her strained relationship with his grandfather Raghunandan who expelled her for marrying against his wishes years before. Attarintiki Daredi was made with a budget of 550 million. Principal photography began in January 2013 and ended in July 2013, with the film being primarily shot in and around Hyderabad. Significant portions were shot in Pollachi and Europe. The film was released on 27 September 2013 and received positive critical reception. It earned a worldwide share of 748.8 million, grossed nearly 1.2 billion, and emerged as the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time. It won four Filmfare Awards, six SIIMA Awards and six Santosham Film Awards apart from the B. Nagi Reddy Memorial Award. The film was dubbed into Hindi as Daring Baaz and is being remade into Kannada as Ranna with Sudeep, Rachita Ram and Haripriya in the lead roles.

Magadheera (2009)

A Telugu historical fiction film, written by K. V. Vijayendra Prasad and directed by S. S. Rajamouli. Based on the theme of reincarnation, the film was produced by Allu Aravind of Geetha Arts. The film stars Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal, while Dev Gill and Srihari appear in prominent roles. The plot revolves around four people: a valiant warrior in charge of the princess safety; the princess who loves him; her cousin who lusts after her; and an emperor who wants to conquer their kingdom. They all die before their wishes are fulfilled and are reborn after 400 years, at which point the warrior kills the scheming cousin with the support of the emperor and wins over the princess. Made on a budget of 350 million, the production was launched on 2 March 2008 while principal photography commenced on 19 March 2008. The cinematography was done by K. K. Senthil Kumar, and was edited by Kotagiri Venkateshwara Rao. Production design was done by R. Ravinder, while the action sequences were choreographed by Peter Hein and the duo of Ram—Lakshman. The visual effects were designed by R. C. Kamalakannan, with assistance from Adel Adili and Pete Draper. It is the first Telugu film to list a "visual effects producer" in its credits. The soundtrack was composed by M. M. Keeravani, who collaborated with Kalyani Malik to score the background music. Magadheera was released on 31 July 2009 across 1250 screens worldwide, to critical acclaim, and collected a distributors share of 731 million. The film grossed in excess of 1.25 billion worldwide and remained the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time for five years, until it was surpassed by Attarintiki Daredi in 2013. Its 1000-day theatrical run surpassed Chandramukhi (2005) as the longest running South Indian film. It is also the first Telugu film to have a home media release in Blue-ray. The film won the National Award for Best Choreography and Best Special Effects at the 57th National Film Awards as well as winning six Filmfare Awards, nine Nandi Awards and ten CineMAA Awards. The films success catapulted the lead actors into stardom. The film was dubbed into Tamil as Maaveeran and Malayalam as Dheera: The Warrior, and was released simultaneously on 27 May 2011 in more than 100 and 50 screens respectively, with both versions being commercially successful. In 2014, the film was further remade in Bengali as Yoddha: The Warrior by Raj Chakraborty with Dev and Mimi Chakraborty portraying the lead roles.

Gabbar Singh (2012)

A Telugu action film produced by Bandla Ganesh under the Parameswara Art Productions and directed by Harish Shankar. The lead actors include Pawan Kalyan and Shruti Haasan in lead roles alongside Kota Srinivasa Rao, Abhimanyu Singh in supporting roles. The film is an adaptation of the 2010 Hindi film Dabangg. The film is about a police cop renamed himself as "Gabbar Singh" after the famous villain revolting against a dreaded goon. In the process, he lose his mother and has a hatred towards his step-father and step-brother. Rest of the plot revolves around Gabbar and his clash with Siddhappa. Devi Sri Prasad composed the films music and Jayanan Vincent was the films cinematographer. The film was made with the budget of 30 crore (US$4.8 million) and was formally launched in 18 August 2011 at Hyderabad. The filming was primarily held at Pollachi. The film was released on 11 May 2012 to positive reviews and became a large commercial success, grossing 150 crore (US$24 million) worldwide with a distributor Share of 70 crore (US$11 million) (Share) and thus becoming one of highest grossing Telugu films. It was dubbed in Hindi as Policewala Gunda by Goldmine Telefilms in 2013. Its sequel titled Gabbar Singh 2 is in pre-production.

Race Gurram (2014)

Telugu romantic action-comedy film directed by Surender Reddy and produced by Nallamalupu Srinivas under his banner Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Productions. The film starred Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles while S. Thaman composed the music. Principal photography began on 13 May 2013 in Hyderabad. The films "talkie part" was completed on 24 December 2013, with the entire shoot completed on 22 February 2014. The film had a worldwide release on 11 April 2014 The dubbed Malayalam version of the film titled Lucky: The Racer released on 25 April 2014. It was also dubbed into Hindi as Main Hoon Lucky: the Racer. Upon release, the film received positive reviews from critics, eventually becoming the fourth highest grossing Telugu film of all time and the highest grosser of 2014 as it collected a share of 594 million (US$9.4 million) worldwide.

Dookudu (2011)

An Action comedy film directed by Srinu Vaitla, featuring Mahesh Babu and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead roles. The film was produced by Ram Achanta, Gopi Achanta and Anil Sunkara under the banner 14 Reels Entertainment. It was written by Srinu Vaitla along with Kona Venkat and Gopimohan. S. Thaman composed the music while K. V. Guhan handled the cinematography after Prasad Murella left the project in mid-way. The film is partially inspired from the 2003 German tragicomedy film Good Bye, Lenin!. Production began on 28 June 2010 at Hyderabad. The films shooting began on 22 October 2010 at Turkey and lasted till mid-September 2011. The film was predominantly shot in Hyderabad, with portions of the film also shot in Mumbai, Gujarat, Istanbul, Dubai and Switzerland. The film released on 23 September 2011 in 1600 screens worldwide. Upon release, the film received positive reviews and was commercially successful. The film was called as "The biggest hit youve never heard of" by The Los Angeles Times. The film collected a distributor share of 567 million in its lifetime and grossed more than 1 billion in its lifetime making it one of the highest grossers of 2011 in Telugu cinema. The film won seven Nandi Awards, six Filmfare Awards, eight SIIMA Awards and eight CineMAA Awards. The film was dubbed into Tamil as Athiradi Vettai, into Malayalam as Choodan and into Hindi as The Real Tiger. The film was remade into Bengali as Challenge 2 starring Dev and Pooja Bose in 2012, and into Kannada as Power in 2014 starring Puneeth Rajkumar and Trisha.

S/O Satyamurthy (2015)

It features an ensemble cast of Allu Arjun, Upendra, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Sneha, Adah Sharma, Nithya Menen, Rajendra Prasad, Brahmanandam and Ali. Prakash Raj makes a crucial cameo appearance as Satyamurthy. The film revolves around a person named Viraj Anand who desires to follow the footsteps of his father Satyamurthy and live by his values and what happens when Satyamurthy is killed in a freak accident and how far Anand, his familys only bread winner, goes to save his noble fathers legacy from his girlfriends father Sambasiva Rao who accuses Satyamurthy for a case of fraud with the help of a faction landlord Devaraj. Devi Sri Prasad composed the music for the film. The film was launched officially on 10 April 2014 at Ramanaidu Studios in Hyderabad. The principal photography commenced on 22 September 2014 at Hyderabad. The film released worldwide in 1375 screens on 9 April 2015 to decent feedback from critics. Even though bad reviews the movie Collected 54 crores and placed in 6th position.

Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (SVSC) (2013)

A Telugu drama film written and directed by Srikanth Addala. The film stars Venkatesh, Mahesh Babu, Anjali and Samantha, with Prakash Raj, Jayasudha and Rohini Hattangadi in supporting roles. The film was produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations. The film is being dubbed into Tamil language with the title of Anandam Anandame. The film was touted to be the first multi-starrer in contemporary Telugu cinema. The film was launched on 6 October 2011 and filming began on 18 January 2012 in Visakhapatnam. The soundtrack of the film was scored by Mickey J Meyer and the album was released on 16 December 2012. The film was released globally on 11 January 2013, and received rave reviews from the critics. The film was nominated for eight South Filmfare Awards winning two awards, Best Actor – Telugu and Best Female Playback Singer – Telugu. SVSC collected 55 crore (US$8.7 million) net profit as distributors share in excess of its budget in its lifetime.

Mirchi (2013)

Telugu film action-masala written and directed by debutante Koratala Siva. The film stars Prabhas, Anushka Shetty and Richa Gangopadhyay in the lead roles and Sathyaraj, Adithya Menon and Nadhiya in pivotal roles. The film was tentatively titled Vaaradhi, but was later renamed to Mirchi. The movie was a blockbuster and Prabhas became the 5th tollywood hero to enter the 40cr club. Kailash Kher won Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer - Telugu award for the song "Pandagala Digivacchavu" . The film was dubbed into Hindi as Khatarnak Khiladi.

Yevadu (2014)

Telugu action thriller film co-written and directed by Vamsi Paidipally. The film features Ram Charan, Shruti Haasan, and Amy Jackson in the lead roles, while Allu Arjun, Kajal Aggarwal, Sai Kumar, Jayasudha and Rahul Dev play supporting roles. The film was produced by Dil Raju under the banner Sri Venkateswara Creations. Vakkantham Vamsi co-wrote the films script with Paidipally. Devi Sri Prasad composed the films music, while Marthand K. Venkatesh was the films editor. The films story was partially inspired by John Woos 1997 film, Face/Off, and revolves around two strangers, Satya and Charan. The film was made on a budget of 350 million, and was officially launched on 9 December 2011. Principal photography began on 27 April 2012 and lasted until 22 July 2013. The majority of the film was shot in Vishakhapatnam and Hyderabad, mostly in Ramoji Film City, while two songs were shot in Switzerland and Bangkok. Released during the season of the Makar Sankranti festival, the film received decent feedback from critics. It grossed more than 600 million and collected a distributor share of 471 million, becoming one of the highest grossing Telugu films of 2014. The film was dubbed into Malayalam as Bhaiyya My Brother the same year.

Baadshah (2013)

An Action-comedy thriller film directed by Srinu Vaitla. The film was produced by Bandla Ganesh under his Parameswara Art Productions banner. It stars Jr. NTR and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles and is their second film together after Brindavanam. The soundtrack was composed by S. Thaman and this is his second collaboration with Srinu Vaitla. Cinematography was handled by Jayanan Vincent, R D Rajasekhar and K V Guhan. The film was released worldwide on 5 April 2013, receiving positive reviews from critics and was declared "Blockbuster" at the box-office. And was premiered at the Osaka Asian Film Festival 2014 held in Japan. The film was also dubbed into Hindi under the title Rowdy Baadshah by Goldmines TeleFilms. Baadshah released in 1550 Screens worldwide with 1200 Prints.
